Part of the reason I have been able to happily settle into living in my cute little funky artsy town is that I have a studio in a turn of the century opera house!!! It is called Wagner Opera House. It has 30 foot ceilings and big windows. It is a true pleasure to work in such an expansive space. I feel like my creativity can expand in a way it doesn’t in other places.
The history of it ties into the greater history of Oshkosh. In the 1800s Oshkosh was a booming place. Wagner Opera House was only an opera house as an idea as there were 2 huge fires in downtown (read more at this INSTAGRAM post) Broadway plays would go from NYC to Chicago and then to our little town (to the other Opera House, The Grand Opera house where I also cut my chops as a little musical theater performing growing up, my first tastes of costume design).
Our space is split into 6 studios- my Dad has a photography studio, my brother a painting studio, a dear friend has 2 painting studios and my boyfriend has a music rehearsal space. It is lovely work alongside people I love and be inspired by their work.
